dal 1928 a sesto calendeESTO CALENDE (198 m. S.l.m.) is a little town at the centre of a large and verdant valley of glacial origin. It is situated at the place where the Ticino River bounded by banks of luxuriant vegetation, flows out of the Lake Maggiore. The origins of Sesto Calende go-back to the pre-Roman period; it is certain that its birth was tied to its geographical position and to the commercial traffic on the Ticino which was busy up to the end of the 18th century. The municipal area contains some picturesque localities: S.Anna and Lisanza on eastern shore of the lake Maggiore; Coquo, S.Giorgio, Lentate, Oriano e Oneda which are situated on the lower slopes of the surrounding hills.
